Discover the magic of letterpress printing at this Pop-Up Studio session with local book artist and printer, Rhiannon Alpers.
We're hosting these drop-in interactive demonstrations throughout April to help you celebrate National Poetry Month!
Come letterpress print your own book cover artwork and staple it into a personalized journal to take home. You'll get the chance to use two different fascinating types of presses: a classic tabletop clamshell letterpress from the early 1950s and a contemporary laser-cut letterpress crafted by Provisional Press. Rhiannon will give two brief demo talks about letterpress techniques and uses for letterpresses.
All ages are welcome, no prior experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided. No advance registration is required. Drop-ins are welcome but supplies are limited to the first 40 participants, so come early to save your seat!
About the Expert
Rhiannon Alpers is a papermaker, letterpress printer, and book artist. As the proprietor of Gazelle & Goat Press, she creates limited-edition and one-of-a-kind artist books. With 25 years of experience as an educator and commercial printer/bookbinder, she has exhibited internationally. In 2024, she was named a Semi-Finalist for the MCBA Book Prize.
