You're invited to explore the emotional and cultural significance of food at this interactive, bilingual event. Families can enjoy eating pupusas (a type of flatbread similar to arepas) together.
Afterwards, children are invited to participate in their own activities while adults engage in a guided discussion on how food connects us to our identities, memories and traditions.
There will be a screening of the "Cocina Libre" bilingual documentary, which follows the journey of five immigrant chefs and tells their stories of resilience through food. The event will end with an engaging Q&A session featuring a chef, offering an opportunity to learn more about their experiences and culinary traditions.
This event will be held in Spanish and English. Space is limited; registration required. Please register each individual family member who will be attending.
All ages are welcome to join this event! But please note that some of the stories shared in the documentary and during the discussions reflect the trauma of immigration. The content may be emotional and quite raw. Children's activities will be available as an alternative to the documentary and discussion.
Estás invitado a explorar el significado emocional y cultural de la comida en este evento interactivo y bilingüe. Las familias podrán disfrutar de pupusas (un tipo de pan plano parecido a las arepas) juntos. Después, los niños están invitados a participar en sus propias actividades, mientras que los adultos participan de una discusión guiada sobre cómo la comida nos conecta con nuestra identidad, recuerdos y tradiciones.
Habrá una presentación del documental bilingüe "Cocina Libre", que sigue el recorrido de cinco chefs inmigrantes y cuenta sus historias de resiliencia a través de la comida. El evento terminará con una sesión interesante de preguntas y respuestas con la participación de un chef, ofreciendo la oportunidad de aprender más sobre las experiencias y tradiciones culinarias de los chefs.

The fully renovated Anythink Perl Mack serves the North Denver community with a variety of spaces and programs for all ages. This sustainable facility includes a children’s pavilion, teen space, computer lab and program space. The landscaped site also includes a community garden, maintained by local community members in partnership with Denver Urban Gardens.
